On Friday 16th August, Northwood Funeral Arranger Michelle Shayler donned her best apron to help at the Emmanuel Church Community Lunch.
Michelle was one of nine volunteers taking orders and serving food. There was a delicious three course lunch on offer which included soup, a choice of jacket potato or cheese tart with salad and a choice of cake for desert.
After lunch people were asked to they donate what they thought was acceptable for the lunch or what they could afford. This Pay-As-You-Feel concept means that people can make a donation of whatever they feel the food is worth. This makes the food accessible to anyone, regardless of their financial status..
The lunch is an opportunity for local people to come together to enjoy a meal and make new friends. Often, it’s volunteers like Michelle giving up their time to help that enable groups like this to continue. Community meet-up’s such as this often provide a valuable lifeline for the most vulnerable in our community so it is vital we continue to support them.
