Funeral Directors helps good causes across Reading with £7,000 worth of grants.

A Funeral Directors which has been proudly at the heart of their communities for a quarter of a century has given thousands of pounds to local charities.

Through their Community Fund, Miles & Daughters Funeral Directors have given grants totalling £7,000 to good causes close to their funeral homes which do fantastic work for people in the local area.

The successful applicants were:

  • The Weller Centre which was awarded £1,250 to provide affordable lunches for elderly people in Caversham.
  • Bucket List Wishes were awarded £1,500 to continue granting wishes for terminally ill adults in Berkshire.
  • Purley Pre-School in Tilehurst will use their £1,500 to improve their garden and outdoor play area.
  • Richard Witt Choices Mentoring CIC, based in Whitley, were granted £1,215 to continue delivering healthy cookery and sports sessions.
  • Reading-based Greyfriars Church will use their £750 on a conversational kitchen project to combat isolation.
  • The 1st Woodley Boys Brigade have been granted £770 to update their outdoor activity equipment which helps youngsters learn about the environment.

This is the second round of the Community Fund, which has seen a combined total of more than £14,000 distributed to a series of fantastic initiatives.

Area Development Manager Sarah White said: “We love hearing about the projects going on across the areas we serve, and it gives me such huge pleasure to support them with these grants.

“It’s great to be able to offer assistance to schemes supporting people both young and old, and ones which are helping to teach people new skills.

“I hope we can continue to build relationships with these charities and groups and find out how our Community Fund has made a difference to them.”
