Funeral arranger Hayley Richardson from Paul Capper Funeral Partners in Bassett became a Dementia Friend on 26th September 2017.
Hayley attended the course held by Sunrise Senior Living in an effort to be more aware of the disease and has pledged to volunteer twice a month supporting residents with daily tasks and providing companionship and support.
The word ‘dementia’ describes a set of symptoms that may include memory loss and difficulties with thinking, problem-solving or language. These changes are often small to start with, but for someone with dementia they have become severe enough to affect daily life.
A Dementia Friend learns a little bit more about what it’s like to live with dementia and the small ways that can help, every action counts.
Hayley said: “ I am proud to be a Dementia Friend and am looking forward to starting my volunteer work at Sunrise. It is so important to be dementia friendly and I hope to encourage more people to attend the training”.
