The team at Melia Powell Funeral Service opened the doors of their funeral home in Cavendish Street, Keighley, to allow people to try wet felting – a traditional craft which uses soap, water and friction to create felt from wool fibres.
The workshop was completely free, with participants asked to bring something to donate to the Millie Wright Children’s Charity which provides practical support for parents staying in hospital with a seriously ill child.
Funeral Arranger Rachel Abbey said: “It was great to see a mixture of adults and children on the day.
“We started by learning the techniques and then participants went on to make their own floral creations with some guidance and support.
“There were some fabulous creations from beautiful aqua-coloured flowers which would have been at home in an ocean garden, to fiery reds and perfect purples.
“Apart from sharing crafting skills, it’s a great way of encouraging the community to step in over the threshold of a Funeral Directors’ and discover the staff on the other side of the door are friendly, approachable and not just for when a loved one dies.
“We have a wonderful space to offer these sorts of activities and hope everyone left with something they were proud of.”
