Francesca Capaldi, a Funeral Arranger at W. Storey Funeral Service in Guisborough, joined forces with a long-time friend for a 21.3-mile walk in support of women with ovarian cancer.
Francesca and her friend Emma Walker were part of a larger group of 120 participants who embarked on the journey from Whitby at 9,15 am, eventually reaching their destination in Saltburn at 4.40 pm.
Together they raised an astonishing £30,000 for Ovacome, a UK-based charity focused on providing support and information to anyone affected by ovarian cancer, including women who have been diagnosed or believe they might be at risk.
Commenting on why they chose to participate, Francesca said: “Emma is in the midst of her own battle with ovarian cancer, and witnessing its impact on her has been both devastating and inspiring. There was no way we were going to pass up the opportunity to help other women going through the same struggle.”
Despite the demanding nature of the walk, which even included a few extra miles due to an unexpected detour, Francesca described the experience as deeply fulfilling: “The scenery was incredible, featuring rugged cliffside paths and breathtaking views. However, the trail was grueling at times.
“I injured my knee and became dehydrated because I didn’t take enough breaks, but the bigger picture was what mattered – we were walking for all the women and families affected by ovarian cancer.
“The solidarity and compassion we felt as a group kept everyone motivated.”
